Full Is This Spring Yet Moon

 Yulp, that is the question I have been getting all February, actually even part of January. They also want to know if the Pecan Trees are budding (a sure sign of spring in our part of the country). Pecans are dead dormant these days I tell them, then I say that winter is over in my opinion. I can see the skepticism in their eyes but most don't doubt me to my face, I'm sure it is out of respect for my elderness. I know they go to some other younger, better looking, less knowledgeable resource to get the answer they are asking for.

Eddie B sent me a photo this morning of 4 planets aligned from his night sky, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Eddie also sent a photo of his garden plowed and ready for his crops,  including Okra, a summer crop, must be, so there!

Eddie C sent photos of his Live Oaks shucking off all their leaves and growing new ones, must be, so there!

The old guys have spoken!

Full moon rises tonight at 630, 20 minutes after sunset. Should be a pretty fine show y'all! Enjoy the spring weather. Don't forget to take the children and old people, they are so important in our lives and we in theirs.

In my world my Red Buckeye is in Full leaf and full bud/bloom, how cool is that, i my world it is spring. Keep your head down, the Hummers are coming soon. The oaks are all in bud expansion and flower, lots of catkins, lots of pollen, in my world it is spring.

3-3-23 Making a round with a prospective new hire, as we passed by the Horticulture Center outdoor shade structures I spotted a Cooper Hawk perched on the edge of the structure. Coops hang there bc they hunt the Pigeons ie Rock Doves that make a living around Blackham Coliseum, next door, they especially like to perch on the drip edge. A Coop will fly really fast and low at the big dome of a building scattering the pigeons on the lead edge then the Coop continues over the curvature of the structure to ambush the unexpecting loafers on the back side. This is quite a spectacle y'all.

That is it, grading papers and posting grades. Sorry, been a busy time for this old guy.

Full Arbor Day Moon

4-22-24: I know, I know, I have been slacking. My excuse is that life got in my way and I'm sticking to that one until a better comes along. Happy Earth Day y'all! 4-6-24 When is Arbor Day? Nationally it is this Friday, April 26. FM happens Tuesday at sunset, about 740, according to my app. Here we go, in Louisiana we do it different which is not a surprise for a state that is more like a third world country in most folks eyes. Our Arbor Day is third Friday of January, usually a cold rainy day. This is perfect for Louisiana since our soil never freezes and root growth is always happening while the top is dormant because of the cool weather. Perfect storm for establishment. Full Hummers are Massing Moon

 I know, I know, where ya been? Life kind of got in the way. I been busy... I just had to tell you that there are hummingbirds all over my yard, I'm loving it! Full (Blue) Moon rose last night in an explosion of light, so fine, about fifteen minutes behind sunset. Of course down here in the bottomland hardwoods, we could see the glow but no show for an hour or so. 8-8-24 I called Wild Bill, Bird Man Bill Fontenot, and told him that I was worried about not seeing any Monarch butterflies, I have seen one, as in 1, this year...He say, he's not too worried, with all them folks planting so much milkweed, that should help. besides It is too early for you to see them here. October, November are the Monarch Migration months.
