Full Hummers are Massing Moon

I know, I know, where ya been? Life kind of got in the way. I been busy... I just had to tell you that there are hummingbirds all over my yard, I'm loving it!

Full (Blue) Moon rose last night in an explosion of light, so fine, about fifteen minutes behind sunset. Of course down here in the bottomland hardwoods, we could see the glow but no show for an hour or so.

8-8-24 I called Wild Bill, Bird Man Bill Fontenot, and told him that I was worried about not seeing any Monarch butterflies, I have seen one, as in 1, this year...He say, he's not too worried, with all them folks planting so much milkweed, that should help. besides It is too early for you to see them here. October, November are the Monarch Migration months. So I took a deep breath and thought back to my Huge Monarch Moments.

In the early seventies, late fall, driving the Causeway north from The Big Easy into Covington/Folsom area and realizing what all those butterflies were Monarchs, flying south over the big lake, of course! I remember slowing down at times not to impale them in my grill or splatter on my windshield, Monarch Migration Madness.

In September 1996, Parents Weekend, USNA, Annapolis, Md, so exciting, so much pomp and ceremony, Jake a Senior, AND the Buckeye trees were covering the ground with those big beautiful seed, I filled my pockets. Then with Chesapeake Bay being right there, blue, blue skies, there were butterflies everywhere flying south around the big water, ever south. Monarch Migration Madness!

November 2015, Fontainebleau State Park, camped out with my Native Plants class on North Shore of the big Lake Pontchatrain, exploring lake edge at the end of a long day, seeing strands of Monarchs hanging like garland on the Cypress twigs. Monarch Migration Madness.

Sigh, I do get excited at times!

8-11-24 My bud Jon, texted a question. I love having Jon as a bud, he has a huge vocabulary, way bigger than Ol Possum's, always a challenge to keep up with this guy. His question, what is this yellow green bird in my yard, like a Prothonotary Warbler but much smaller, smaller than a sparrow and larger than a chickadee? So I copied Bird Man Bill and he texted back, Green Warbler and you will only see it in August. It like the MIKIs heads South and West along the Gulf Rim about now, looking for a spot to winter.

Peace and love y'all, I do hope you enjoyed that full moon rising last night, now tonight should not be too shabby if you wish to take a peek. I do miss you guys!
