Full Red Skies Moon

The Full Red Skies Moon rises around 530pm, new time, just after the sun sets around 515, new time, today on Tuesday 11-8-22. P and I will be out enjoying that show, a glass of tart red in our finger tips, saluting you our friends.

10-9-22 Full Garter Snakes A Running Moon was quite the show, not too shabby.

I'm planning the ATBH for October 15. I get so excited to do that "Ancient Tree Bike Hike" every time mid October rolls around again.

2 Hummers thundering past me on the side porch, YAY!

10-10-22 No mo hummers here abouts. Kenny says his floriferous yard is full of them. Hmmm, I have to see that to believe it. All I get texted to me is fuzzy images of ????? "do you see it? I cannot make out what "it" is exactly!???"

10-15-22 ATBH was grand success, thanks to all who allowed us to go onto their properties to lay hands on these Elders. Oh and the sturdy cyclists.

10-20-22 What the heck? Hummer on the Cypress vine! Who said that they are gone? P grabbed her binocs and says brown hummer. Hmmmm must be a Rufus, one of the winter hummingbirds, I missed the details.

10-23-22 Troy and Kara Primeaux invited us to the Hot Pepper Documentary Party at Lake Martin. Primo developed the Primo 7-pot, the worlds hottest pepper.  Highlight was this giant Preying Mantis that fell out of a Live Oak into Paula's hair. Now that was exciting.

Oh, I did get to meet "Joe the Pepper Eater". These are guys who enter and win the hot pepper eating contests all over the country. I told him I could pick him out right away as a pepper eater bc his nose was running and the sweat was beading  profusely on his bald head! Joe may have interpreted that as my perceiving him as weak, not sure, but he started making excuses right away and he then avoided me there rest of the afternoon.

10-27-22 Native Plants Field Trip to Avery Island with Dr-Mr Garrie Landry always a super affair. Garrie has the best laugh and so many interesting plants. Our class this year was treated to the Sacred Giant Timber Bamboo Grove. This plant is one organism, a clone, planted from a single plant over one hundred years ago and now so large it is visible from space as seen on Google Earth. Thank you Dr-Mr Garrie Landry.

10-29-22 Faye and Christian pledged forever in their wedding vows to each other on the lawn overlooking Lake Pegnieur at Jefferson Island. This was a grand family event AND the sunsets this time of year are to die for.

My brother John passed out business card sized cards to selected recipients that stated "I am the Father of the Bride Nobody's paying much attention to me today. But I can assure you that I am getting my share of attention, for the banks  and several business firms are watching me very closely." John says that he found these in Dad's papers when he passed. Claims that dad handed them out at all 7 of his daughters wedding receptions.

10-31-22 Field trip! My Plant Science Lab, your basic organic gardening class for Freshmen, is headed to Sunset and Blazing Star Farm, Alisha and Jacob's Micro Farm. Alisha taught my class about Organic Nutrients, Cover Crops, Soil Preparation and Planting. This class was full of lessons and was a fine gift to us all. Thank you Alisha.

This is early sugarcane harvest, leaf wastes are being burned all about and some marshlands too, all this material in the air adds to the colorful light shows of the early morning and late evening.

Margaret Simon, November 1

(From her blog Reflections on the Teche)

November is here and it's dark. The sun is slanting in the sky, the weather is cooling, and the days are shorter. Therefore, my friend, teacher, photographer Lory Landry was able to capture this sunrise on the way to school (blog post contains a photo). Around here, the sugarcane is either standing tall or freshly cut. It's harvesting season. That also means that when the wind is just right, you get a whiff of burning cane-fields. They still do this despite its harmfulness to the environment. If truth be told, I like the scent. I also like that it means fall and Christmas.

November 1st

A scent of wood burning
A splatter of candy on concrete
Jack-o-lanterns gone to seed
A sprinkle of egrets perch like twin moons in the trees
A church bell chimes

Embrace the red sunrise
And praise the morning light.

11-2-22 Danged Full Red Skies Moon woke me up at 1am, shining right in my eyes. That girl is getting larger by the day...

11-3-22 Field Trip, Native Plants Class visits Dr Malcolm Vidrine's Cajun Prairie Garden, next to his home. Mac is a living Louisiana Prairie history persona and an excellent teacher. We learned so much. Then a quick stop at the Cajun Prairie Restoration in Eunice and we race back to Lafey for someone's work.

Y'all get out there and enjoy the show.
peace love possumhugs
