Full I Can See Clearly Now Moon

Full I Can See Clearly Now Moon rises,Tuesday, December 29 at 5pm  about 15 minutes before the sun sets. should be a grand affair unless the clouds move in. Hey, this is Louisisana y'all...P and I will raise a glass of tart red to you our friends and the awe inspiring natural world that supports us.

I'm Here

The city doesn't require me

to have a purpose.

It says I never need to think about

what I'm offering the world.

The essence is money.

The rest can be a blur

of hiding from the sun

in air-conditioned rooms.

No need for any of it ot be holy.

Throw cups away, ten a day.

A cool night wind blows my windows open.

I disagree with the mantras of this place.

I can't forget that I'm standing

on a planet that is floating in space.

I can't ignore my constant awe

or the words that arrive

while I'm sleeping. Each verse

written in the dark is a reason,

a reminder that I'm here

and I know why.

12-1-20 Full moon tonight, WooooHoooo! Full Peveto Moon, I want to pronouce it Pa-vee toe, but my bud David who comes from Grand Chenier tells me the right way to say it is Peh-veh tOe... I'm so confused.

So what is new.

Thinking of Grand Chenier made me remember the great Ms Oz (thought about her today for the first time in years), Azemie LeBoiuf, 2-14-11 to 12-15-06,  who came into my world after Hurricane Rita swept the third home of her life on Grand Chenier out from under her. She had no where to go so she moved in with her daughter Betty in New Iberia. Ms Oz had the great sadness of loosing all that was familliar to her, so she needed help, someone told her I was a Traiteur (Louisiana folk healer), which wasn't quite right, I am trained as a Reiki practitioner. Her daughter, Betty an RN was familiar with energy workers and their laying on of hands way of hospital healing, knowing no traiteurs, suggested me to her mom. Oz asked for me to come, so I did and brought along an entourage of fellow Reiki practioners. I wonder what Oz thought of all of that. I know the Reiki energy no doubt made her feel better, that was obvious but Traiteurs normally work alone and for money and pray along with the treatment. This was different, but she seemed to relax into the treatment and accept whatever we offered. Very cool y'all,

12-2-20 Second day of full moon was a great treat.

From Margaret's website:

One of my favorite things about teaching Reading and Writing to elementary gifted students is our weekly poetry reading and writing. We'd gather around the center table and read a poem together, talk about it, annotate, and write "like" the author. While it looks different this year, I have not given up teaching poetry. This week we worked with Teach this Poem and Joy Harjo's poem Perhaps the World Ends Here. I love this poem, the universality of it, the simple profound language, and its accessibility to young students.

When Jaden suggested we steal a line, I knew exactly which one I wanted to steal: "This table has been a house in the rain, an umbrella in the sun." After a few false starts, I am pleased with my poem. I am also posting Jaden's because it shares wisdom beyond his 10 years.

The Writing Table

At this table,
dreams are written
in decorated notebooks.

There’s a pocket for poems
and clean blue lines open
to ideas.

At this table, there are
scraps of paper,
colored pens in a coffee can,
a tube of glitter-glue.

Today, this table is empty.
A screen glows
while children type
& breathe through cloth.

Words still float onto an empty page.
Poems still light a spark.

This table is a house in the rain,
An umbrella in the sun,
a dawn in the darkness.
Come taste the sweetness.

Margaret Simon, 2020

Why all
the gifts of earth are brought and prepared, set on the table.
So has it been since creation, and it will go on.

The gifts have been laid out through history
traveling through our mind.
The table of gifts has been the energy of life in our heart.
The gifts of the table have been tampered with.
The gifts in our heart have been bruised.
The table is the immune system
shielding the gifts of the earth.

Whoa Margaret, sign Jaden up!

12-3-20 Spotted a large group of Vultures swirling low over the Teche Ridge near the Keystone lock and dam today. They seemed to be at least 50 in number and I swear they were all looking over their shoulders at Ol Possum. Hmmmmm, y'all that tends to make an older guy nervous.

12-9-20 Brothers Birthday Lunch Pre-Celebration today! Besides the two host brothers and the honoree brother we were joined by the previously mentioned David, native of Grand  Chenier, Louisiana, who straightened out my pronounciation of Peveto. This small, well I truthfullly cannot say small, this additional member to our party made the whole affair a bit larger and noisier, delightfully noisier. Thanks for making the trip to celebrate with us David. Brother John is the honoree, was happy with the present of your presence.

Baby and I, Baby brother Jeff and I made a journey to Blazing Star Farm before lunch to check out that stellar operation. Cut flowers, herbs and vegetables. Precision organics y'all.  Baby is contemplating a similar effort in his spare time.

I will serve the earth

and not pretend my life could be

better served.

12-11-20 Actual birthday is today, YAY John!

12-12-20 Grandson Ben and girlfiend Blair came over to help Ben's grandparents, Mimi and Pop.

Ben to service and winterize my tiller, chain saw, generator and mower. Thank you Ben.

Blair, the angel sent from on high that she is, helped Mimi decorate for Christmas, what a blessing for Mimi and for Pop, especially Pop who avoids that job.

I turned around in the early afternoon and there was a winter hummer on my feeder, probably a Rufus Hummingbird. I've been waiting all winter for this one, ever since the Ruby Throats left in October.

12-13-20 I recharged my feeders with fresh nectar this morning and disturbed 30 European Honey Bees, EHBs, from the 4 bee guards on my one feeder, wow, that was exciting stuff y'all.

12-18-20 I walked past the backup HB feeder under the baldcypress, BC, in the middle of the back yard...I stopped and studied the activity of the numerous European Honey Bees, EHBs, making love to the bee gurards and their sweet sticky gift, then I realize that I have stirred up more than the normal amount of attention with my feet. The ground is covered with BC cone crumbs and EHBs I cannot tell if they are after nectar drippings or the BC sap oozing out of the freshly cut cones. BUT I back out of there carefully to stop kicking up the EHBs, my luck can only last so long.

12-19-20 and 12-20-20 Saturday and Sunday are the only days we do not set our alarms for 5am and oh what a treat!

We grabed our late Sunday coffee and head out the door for the end of the Dawn Chorus. We were treated to Carolina Wrens, Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers, random Tee-Pops (unidentified little birds), 2 Rufus Hummers and one Broadtailed Hummer, wow what a moringing! Dog, I believe i recognize this Broadtailed Hummer from your summer hummer movie made in Grand Junction!

12-21-20 Winter Solstice, Yay, now we can turn around and move into the light agin.

I still have not seen the Christmas Star...story of my life.

I have this very generous sister, #4 in family order, #3 sister who shares her "camp" on "The River", False River, New Roads, La. Home town of Ernest J. Gaines and located on an old Mississippi River channel. Her "camp" is as large as many homes and configured to sleep and feed lots of folks, What a gift. We and our children gathered up there for Christmas  begining today as our schedule allows.

12-22-20 Day 2, group size much larger today, too much food, loud talking, crazy wild card games and so on.

12-23-20 One of the son-in-laws tested + for covid today, shoots! His family out of the gathering in self isolation. Shoots!

12-25-20 This Christmas was a good celebration and a good day

12-27-20 I'm sitting out by the fire ring in a patch of sunshine peeling the last of my pecans. Bought them from Mark, had them cracked at CBI and peeled them myself. Not sure why, but I love peeling pecans. My fingers are shredded, but hey... I love peeling pecans.

Hummer! Looks Rufus, on my freshly recharged feeder, doing battle with the European Honey Bees clustered around the bee guards. Hmmmm that sentence reminds me of my favorite David Lee poem:

Ode beneath a Hummingbird Feeder

Sampson. I stike quickly, being mov'd.

Romeo and Juliet, 1.1.6

1

Greenflash of lightning

and memory of a red scar

etched on the golden throat

2

Whirr of tiny wings

like a small thunder

across a redwood porch.

3

Oh, arrogant little warrior,

if I had a naked weapon

I could brandish like yours

I, too, would suffer

no foolish rival suitors

sipping at my ruby font.

of a still afternoon.

12-28-20 One week out from the solstice and it already seems to be more light out there. One can only hope, the hens, my gurls are eating a full ration each and every day but eggs production is way off, maybe 25%. That should change with the increasing day's length as we race off toward the Vernal Equinox then Summer Solstice, YeeeHawwww.

In bloom today, I have Ugly Shrimp Plant or winter shimp, per Bill Fontenot, Tropical Sage, Albutilon and Amistad (or Purple Magesty) Salvia. Sitting out with my coffee enjoying the mid-dawn chorus I noted a rufus winter hummer visiting three of the four and not even looking at the necter feeder. Y'all, there is a message there for all of us. "Garden like hell and keep it simple".

Campfire tonight y'all. Ol moon at 95-07%

12-29-20 The Full I Can See Clearly Now Moon rises tonight at about 5. "Now what is that name about?" you ask. Today Mimi had her second eye done. Cataract surgery, the first one was spectacularly successful six weeks ago. We are hoping for a second success.

Y'all even when she can see me good now and found out what Ol Poss really look like and she still let me sleep in the house. Yay!

Get out with your Honey and enjoy the show, temps are perfect. Oh, and don't forget your kids and old people. bring a blanket for the ground and something to drink.

peace love possumhugs
