Full Covid19 Moon
Full Covid19 Moon
I know, I know this is a soggy, poor, unimaginative name for a beautiful full moon. but look at who came up with it. AND, WHAT CHOICE DO I HAVE?
Tuesday, April 7, the Full Covid19 rises just after 715pm and just before sunset
at 730pm should be a grand rising, just keep in mind no snuggling or sharing wine glasses,
oh yes drinking is fine. Say a prayer of good health for your fellow lunar-madness wine-drinking buddies. I will, I love you all.
A Mary Lee Hahn poem about this very moon:
When I Stepped Outside for My Early Morning Walk
I was met by the moon,
full and bright, hanging low.
Good morning , Moon, I said.
What do you know?
And Moon said, Glow.
Few will notice
fewer will care.
All the more reason to always be there
and glow.
Waxing is joyous
waning is real.
Whether a sliver or the whole wheel,
you glow.
Find some light
get in its way
reflect that light with beam or ray
and glow.
Saweet Mary Lee Hahn, thank you!
3-7-20 I was called by Margaret and Jeff to come capture a swarm at their home this Saturday morning. It is a nice full mass of bees, hanging right in my face, could not have been an easier snag.
3-6, 7, 8-20 Baby brother Jeff being injected in Houston to force his body to produce stem cells in abundance so that they can be removed and held in storage for our sister who is in need. Of her 8 siblings, 3 are perfect matches. Amazing! Jeff is our hero, our hope.
3-9-20 The people at MDAnderson pulled 4.4 million out of Jeff, more than they needed. Wow! I told him that he is a stem cell producing stud, ha!
AND it is the full moon tonight, go figger.
Carolina Wrens are in full courtship and nestbuiding, and who knows what else.
3-18-20 Went into full Hunkering Mode today and put all my classes on-line, whew! Gonna be a wild ride y'all.
3-19-20 Vernal Equinox y'all, must be real my pecan's buds are moving and pushing new leaves. Spring!
3-20-20 Charles had a great moth counting day, a 45 Luna Moth morning, wow!
Purple Martins have been flying about the neighborhood, I have just heard them up to now, today is saw them.
3-22-20 I spoke to my Amy in Dutchtown today she has MIKIs in her yard, that lucky girl.
3-23-20 First RubyThroat HB in our garden. Zooming around acting all sassy, a male, like he just flew the 1000 mile journey. Like my bud Charles say, you could smell the Tequila on his breath. Ha, good one Charles. Charles is the champ, when asked if he had any yet, he said he thought he heard them for a couple of day, then he saw one yesterday and now there are several hanging out.
3-26-20 We are in full Lock Down and it is Mags (17) birthday, boy she is bummed, no one to celebrate with. Sorry Mags!
Carolina Wrens have hatched (3).
3-27-20 Man! I hope my wine holds out

3-31-20 Today my Bird-Day as we say in St Martinville. 73
great years. Today is the special day but as a rule I tend to celebrate the two weeks
before and the two weeks after just to cover things properly. We are in lock-down,
me n P, so we grilled and split a fine steak and baked the last of the sweet
potatoes Jimmy and Flo found for us, ‘Evangeline’ by name and enjoyed that fine apple
pie P directed and I helped put together and eat. Darn, though we are out of Blue Belle Old Fashioned Vanilla to eat with it. Joe will fix that tomorrow.
BTW my mom said that I missed being an April Fool baby by two hours.

4-1-20, Happy April Fools Day! The morning after the evening of the papal praying. I’m
sending this one out to David Lee in Oregon. Your old student Margaret is beginning to shine...heck she has been shinning.
The Prayer
Everyone was supposed to pray with the pope tonight.
But I got struck silent while watching
a hummingbird at the feeder
hovering as on angel wings
disappearing into the green like a spirit.
Where does our spirit go when we die?
Does it hover like the hummer
watching and waiting
for the lift off?
I wonder if the pope even knows?
We pray what?
What should I say?
There is nothing to be done
but stare at the feeder
and wait for another sighting of wings.
Margaret Simon, 2020 draft
I printed Margaret's poem because it came out at the time of the first male hummers in my yard and it reminded me that I always put David Lee's hummer poem at this time of year, sorry Margaret he still is my fav poet. BUT, darn, I forgot that book at my office and it is now locked down and off limits for me for the time being. Not upset about not having to drive to Lafy each day but darn, I wish I had that book, So Quietly the Earth, 2004. In digging for Dave's book, i actually have two, but both are in lockdown, I found a copy of Vic Hummert's wonderful stuff, Breath of Life for All, Haiku Poetry in Defense of Nature, almost the same, just shorter pieces because of those durned haiku rules.
Vic H:
When protecting the Earth
Every day is showdown time
Because we are late
Earth will continue
Without humans who will not
Survive without Earth
When speaking pure truth
We need not fear anyone
Plundering our Earth
Margaret:
Last light of day
glows like any other, yet
gleam lingers longer
Madison, 6th grade:
Ember's graceful flight.
Sparks fly, blizzards and tornadoes
of dire fire.
Maddox, 5th grade:
fluid flowing streams
flowing in the wild forest
complete harmony
4-2-20 My path through the yard was past a fine young Burr Oak, a gift from Richard Johnson. One leaf in particular caught my eye, it is as long as my forearm, from wrist to elbow. Amazing y'all. In the same glance I noted that the tender new foliage was being fed on my numerous herbivores, read insects. Now to show you how Ol Possum's brain works, that in turn reminded me of Talllamy's first book, i own three now, were he taught me that in native forests in the Northeast his graduate students (read graduate student slaves) counted over 500 species feeding on one kind of oak. That is species not individual insects but different types of insect using one kind of tree, in one tree over the year. That is astounding to me folks, made me realize the value of native plants in our ecosystems.Tallamy is an insect guy so his graduate slaves are insect geeks so no harm done, they had fun.
Mom and Dad Carolina Wren are hauling caterpillars and bugs to their young not sunflower seeds! All kinds of insects, amazing!
4-3-20 Jake and Steve planted a tree at Jakes new home today. Their quote of the day "What is the best time to plant a tree? TODAY!"
Got my bottle of tart red picked out, will raise a glass Tuesday night, to you my friends and the Full Covid19.
peace love and possumhugs
