Full Okra Moon
Yes, Full Okra! I my spare time I am reading The Whole Okra. The writer is a Smith guy I have never heard of, Chris. My favorite quote so far is "I ate so much Okra, I slid out of bed." I am planning to plant a patch this summer, eat some fresh, dry some, freeze some...did I tell you that I just love Okra?
this full moon rises at sunset Wednesday and again on Thursday. Hopefully the clouds will clear enough for a good viewing. P and I will raise a glass of tart red to you our friends.

One thing about being the self proclaimed tree guy is that there is no shortage of stupid to fight in tree preservation. Another thing i strongly feel we should all do is plant more trees. Got my Arbor Day planting planning underway, it is the third Friday in January in Louisiana, 12-17-19, y'all. A Ginkgo, a Loquat and a Paw Paw patch!
"One generation plants the trees, another enjoys the shade". Chinese proverb
My philosophy has always been, that the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the next best time is now.
11-12-19 It is November full moon today. I have new ears today...yup, the last were warped and old and dirty and hairy so I decided to upgrade them... Actually my hearing has been going downhill for years, those of you who put up with that, thanks. Anyway, I went in to see Dave C. Clinical Audiologist or Dr. Cavalier, as Margaret, my mother-in-law used to call him.
Dave put me in the booth and ran the numbers, it was not pretty y'all. So here I sit with my new hearing aids hanging on my warped and old and dirty and hairy ears. I start my car and turn it right off again because of this strange chiming, I go back to ask Dave what he thinks it might be and he walks me back to my new, 4 year old truck, smiling he says that he plans to write a book of driveway moments for new hearing aid owners. Turns out the seat belt warning chime was not new, my ears are just now hearing hearing it.
11-19-19 Just finished Brilliant Green, Mancuso/Viola, '15, for the second time. The big takeaway for me this time is that plants brain (plant intelligence) are designed like the internet, or visa versa, instead of one big brain, like most of you, the plant has millions of little brains at root and shoot tips all connected and communicating constantly-WOW Y'ALL.
12-3-19 GHO sounding off in long low HOOTS on the back side of the three acre wood below my house. So cool y'all. GHO=Great Horned Owl.

How about a bit of David Lee from Mine Tailings:
Ode to The Robber Barons
On open pit mining
May you live
In greed and gluttony
May you die
alone and unmourned
May your memory
vanish from the earth
for want of an epitath
Well said Dave.

for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.

11-28-19 Thanksgiving! It was a great celebration and no gift giving y'all. We gathered up Ollie, 93, Amy's family and P and I. Joe is at the fire station, Rachel at Coco, though she stopped to say hi and Jake is caught way up there in Virginia. My Black Friday Celebration failed to happen again this year. Takers were few and my want to went away.
How about a Margaret poem, I told her last night at NIRD Bedtime Yoga that I read and enjoy her stuff.
What Time Does a Bluebird Sing?
Morning is filled with birdsong.
If it’s not yet sunrise, I hear the owl whoot.
If the sun's up and there’s an electric pole nearby,
it’s the woodpecker—drumming, not singing,
but musical all the same.Echoing through the breeze
sings Papa cardinal
and soon the mockingbird joins in
with a trill up the scales.Where is the bluebird?
Hiding in a grove of trees near the swamp,
shyly tweeting,
a flash of blue
the color of sky,
song of morning.Margaret Simon, draft 2019
I am mentally
preparing myself for the five-year-old mind. I want to come down to their
physical limitations and up to their sense of wonder and awe.
