Full Spring Peeper Moon

February 19, 2019, FMA

Full Spring Peeper rises today at 615 just shortly before sunset. We are socked in by clouds of late and have little hope of a good view, though we know we can count on that reliable time piece the solar system to be right on time.
Even my compromised hearing was not denied the piercing calling back and forth in celebration by the Spring Peeper Frogs in ULL's "Swamp", a remnant prairie pothole (buffalo wallow or marais pond) . The warming we are experiencing here on the gulf rim brought them out full force and their urgent mating song made me stop in my tracks and stilled my breath as I was gifted  this rare concert.

1-25-19 P, her dad Ollie and I headed to Lafayette to Out Back to eat out back, in Cade between the two dips we passed an oil train (David) with 107 tanker cars, oh my! Watched an Bald Eagle soar straight over road WNW, oh wow!

A poem by my cousin Kay Couvillon:

Hands Up High

I am fiery red in summer beach walks,
I become lavender peaceful
With restorative yoga.

I hold my
hands up high
to the lights of
love, trust, dance, and
cold beer.

I am an
E. Broussard eagle
in awe of the
bald eagle's nest.

I sway in the
wind of the leaves after
hibernating when i feel like
torn cardboard.

I love red, pink, and scented
geraniums in clay pots from
Mother Earth.

1-30-19 Oil train west bound out of Cade, great flights of feathered crawfishermen, Ibis, over La 92.
2-1-19 Oil train west bound out of Cade, only one pusher engine this time. Normal is two engines pulling, a boxcar, 107 or so oil tankers, one boxcar and two pusher engines... oh well.
Infamous Duck Wake this evening. It was a grand affair with a good crowd of brother duck hunting and duck eating men, or rather men eating ducks.
2-2-19 Duck! Yes you David, DUCK! Another oil train headed east this time, interrupting the 645am peace and quiet, that is three in three days. Some of us are keeping track.
LNPS meeting in Woodworth, Louisiana Native Plant Society, Jon H and I celebrated the day by attending and solving the worlds problems along the way. The day of course began with a pair of Nenaines from Johnson's Boucanniere and a travel mug of coffee from home. A Nenaine is a fresh baked biscuit, topped with a patty of boudin, dripping with melted cheese. Slap-ya-mama good y'all!
2-7-19 Spring Peeper concert!
2-12-19 Ragged line of feathered crawfishermen in the sunrise of a cloudy greyed morning.
2-14-19 Taught a sleepy bunch of 20 year olds at 8 am, then loaded a grad student and my boss into the pickup to explore the east side of the basin. Wild ride and adventure. Senecio glabellus in full bloom, some cane fields golden to the horizon with the common late winter wildflower, Ditch Daisy or Butter Top.

A skinny Ditch Daisy poem by Margaret:

SUNSHINE IS A DAILY MIRACLE

a
meadow
of
gold
a
glow
of
grass
a
daily miracle in the sun.

Early Valentine dinner at Restaurant St. John in St. Martinville, fine meal, P declares their crab cakes the best anywhere!
Valentine poem:

YOU ARE THE MOON

You are the moon.
My only one.

You bring light
Where there was none.
          Charles Ghigna

2-16-19 Early start to Lafayette for Regional Science Fair. Interesting, bright kids.Worked in yard for a bit then P and I raced off to ULL baseball game against Texas Longhorns(that is right, back to good ol Lafayette) because granddaughter Maggie was singing the National Anthem, I am so amazed at that girl, she is 16, a sophomore at Cecelia HS, and fearless, my girl nailed it and "a capella" no less! Never in my wildest dreams could I pull that off, I'm so proud of my Maggie Rose!

Now get out and witness the miracle. Don't forget the tart red beverage and your unplugged young-uns and old people.

peace love possumhugs
