Full Hurricane Rose Prune Moon
Full moon rises as the sun sets tonight, tomorrow night should be a good show as well. I lay in my bed this morning at 444am, anticipating at my 5am alarm sounding off, when from my pillow, through the southwest facing window, i noted a dense light peeking around the heavy pecan trunk. Quite the spectacle, placed there, I'm sure, to remind me to get off of it and finish this monologue. Like dude, today is the day!

8-7-17 full moon tonight. I arrived home after driving through an impossibly spectacular downpour. Our piece of highway was barely damp. Our turn was coming though, 3" of rain in 2 hours, a real toad strangler, so fine, mighty lightning, wind and lots of water.
8-10-17 Drove to Ft. Polk to check on an intern, he is AOK. Dropped in at Allen Acres to say hi and see what was shaking there. AA is a virtual Lepidopteran (butterfly)/Hummingbird Paradise, a perfect storm of flowers and the right animals. I came home tonight to a fine meal of Speckled Trout compliments of Mac and E
8-11-17 Red Fish from Mac and E, oh my! Macque Chou from Eddie, oh yes!
8-12-17 We wandered over to La Poussiere dance hall in Breaux Bridge, Wilson Savoy and his Pine Leaf Boys playing some great music. On way over we picked up Maggie (14) and we had a blast. Mimi taught her how to dance and I got to dance with my granddaughter several dances.
For Maggie (14) goalie and her Dad, Chuck, coach:
THE WAY THAT FATHERS OF THE GIRLS
NAMED GOALKEEPER DRIFT CASUALLY
DOWN THE SIDELINE TO STAND BEHIND
THE GOAL NET
As if drawn there by some migratory urge,
Some irresistible magnetic force
That compels them to sidle
Unobtrusively down the line
And around the corner
To one goalpost or the other
From which tiny campsite
They keep up a steady patter
Of affectionate warning
To their lanky daughters
Who without exception
Jump up to catch the top bar
And swing from it meditatively
As knots of their teammates swirl
In schools around the flashing ball
Far downfield, beyond consciousness
The daughters swing,
They adjust their jerseys,
They examine the runes of the grass.
The fathers hum,
Shuffle their feet.
Sip their coffee.
Say watch out now,
Say, heads up now.

8-14-17 I awoke to rumbling thunder to the south and drove out to a grand rainbow in the southeast as the sun rose.
8-15-17 I learned pruning at my Ol Daddy's knee, he taught me how to prune roses too. One thing I learned was to prune hard in February, like Valentine Day, removing weak and diseased wood, thinning and shortening, always to an outward facing bud. He taught me to prune them again but not as hard on August 15 to unload the plants of all that accumulated top weight in case a hurricane came our way. This was to was to prevent upsetting and to encourage a heavy fall bloom in October.
8-17-17 A waxing fingernail moon in the morning sky.
Playing with my sons
And he's three years old,
And he has to go to the bathroom.
I say Can you wipe yourself?
And he says, quietly, no;
Can you help me? he says
So here I am, wiping Paul,
And thinking of all the kids
Who need help being wiped
In houses other than their own,
All the kids whose parents are
Somewhere else than where
Their children need to be wiped,
And all the someone else's
wiping someone else's kids.
I help Paul with his buttons
Wash your hands, Paul, I say,
And he does so, quietly,
And then runs off with the guys.
But I sit there on the tub
Thinking of all those
Someone else's kids
Waiting to be wiped.

Most of the good men who lived along that shore
wanted to be in love and give good love
to beautiful women, who weren't pretty
and to small children like me who wondered.
What the hell is this?

8-21-17 Eclipse today, Dr. Kinsland walked around the parking lot like a true eclipse geek with a cardboard box/pinhole projector trying to get as many students to have a look as he could, called his device a Camera Obscura! So very cool. i work with some very interesting people.
8-24-17 TS Harvey in gulf, headed in to Texas Gulf coast.
8-27-17 Harvey, a cat 4 hurricane, is on shore in Houston area, moon walking all over Houston. by the time it is over, they have 51.88" of rain in three days, oh my! Houston is very flat and already saturated, which means the water spreads out but it also means things don't drain away too fast, water just sort of oozes away. Unimaginable damage. Rain 1.5" here today.

8-29-17 Rain 2.25" today, no where near 50" so we are good, saved by the Harvey circulation having sucked in some dry West Texas air to keep us from floating off.
8-31-17 49th Wedding Anniversary! WhooHoo! Steak and Potatoes and Asparagus and a slow dance with my bride!
9-1-17 Nice Red Tail Hawk, low and away. Lots of these guys around this summer, more than I'm accustomed to seeing
9-2-17 This is the second cool morning in a row, come on Fall! No rain! Bunches of RTHB about the place (that is Ruby Throated Humming Birds). For some reason they seem to appreciate those two nectar feeders I finally filled and put up. It is nice to having all that moving color about my space.
9-5-17 Lunch with Bird Man Bill and Prairiedog at Taco Sisters this noon. I just sit there with my mouth open listening to all the big words flying about. I always learn from these two.
OK, full moon rises tonight, before 8pm, get out with some tart red and your best buddy and enjoy the show. Kids always seem to have fun on the outside, so take them there; old people appreciate the attention so take them too, whew, now the old station wagon is full, so get them outside into the fresh air and mosquitoes in these parts after all the rain.
