Full Moon Alert

 Full John Prine Moon rises as the sun sets today and tomorrow. The calendar says that Saturday is the Full Moon, wow, two night of white light, yay! I teach a lab class. ENVS 151, plant science lab. Monday afternoon, 2-4pm. I teach it as a organic gardening class since I figure almost everything you need to learn about plants you can learn in the garden and my students really enjoy the process. This semester I have 17 young people, and one old guy (me). On February 7 one of my guys showed up in a John Prine shirt, and I love John Prine, that initiated a lively conversation and it turns out he was a bigger fan than I. He was also a guitar player and singer so I challenged him to fill the first time slot in class next week. He asked if he could come on Feb 21 instead, to give him time to practice. I said sure. The Full Mirleton Moon rises as the sun sets around 6 Wednesday February 16. This should be a notable event here on the Gulf Rim unless storm clouds are rolling in about then. The Full Ruby and the Land Submarine Moon rises grandly at sundown on Sunday, December 19. She sets magnificently Monday morning during the dawning and rising of our sun. Winter Solstice Tuesday, December 21, 9:58 am in our hemisphere, shortest day's length 10hr and 12min on our shortest day, here South of St. Martinville. P, now fully retired, has purchased for us a used but well cared for camper, a Casita 17'. Very compact and efficient little jewel, a tool to get us away from it all. FMA July 23, 2021 Full Baby Yellowtail Moon Hey y’all, I hope this finds you great! I just finished a wonderful book The Seed Underground by Janisse Ray. Oh wow, what a writer and full of good stories and information for us all. The book opens with Janisse saying that it is time to start building “lives that make sense, that contribute to a lighter, more intelligent, more beautiful way of living on the earth, lives that are lived as far outside and beyond corporate control as possible”. On a visit to Sylvia Davatz’s garden in Vermont “where grows the largest White Oak in Vermont”. Now that grabbed my attention y’all! Sylvia told Janisse that she is just a gardener, trying to garden like we no longer have oil, because soon we won’t. Janisse is inspired by her visit to say that “it is time to establish locally grown seeds, to return to our grandmother’s ways, growing our veggies, traveling less, treasuring home, family and friends more.” Amen sister! The Full SSCBS Moon rises about 830 Thursday night. Get out and enjoy it y'all. P and I enjoyed a extended weekend with my sister at her ranch near Navasota, Tx over Father's Day. I'm telling you our time there was so quiet and unhurried. P and Celest visited and cooked and visited and cooked having the best of sister-times. While there we were constanly swarmed by Barn Swallows who were tending nestlings in mud nests up under the eaves of the porch, pretty cool and interesting. More than a few times I would look up from a book or conversation to see a Spicebush Swallowtail, that is a butterfly y'all, in full Top Gun combat mode in persuit of a Barn Swallow, I mean hot on his tail. Never in my life have I whitnessed such and I am not sure what that was all about or that is what I actually saw. Should be so fine y'all. 4-28-21 after seeing a MIKI over the Berry on Earth Day, today I spotted number 2 over campus in Lafey today. Daughter Amy called from Dutchtown to tell me that they are back there too. 5-17-21 Snapping Turtle at end of drive after 7" last week. Spoke to Prairie Dog in Grand Junction where that is the average rainfall for the year. 2" short of that last year. I cannot immagine it being that dry. The Full MIKIs Returning Moon rises Monday about 730, just before sunset, clear sky on Gulf Rim, Yay! Hey y'all! Happy Earth Day! I have an extra reasons to celebrate on April 22; Earth Day, son Jake's birthday (49) and the historic arrival date of MIKIs returning to Iberia Parish (MIKI=Mississippe Kite) 4-22-21 I step out of the Iberia Parish Courthouse where we have just filed Ol Ollie's (Father-in-Law) succession with the Clerk of Court, it has been a long time coming y'all, now to do battle with the financials to move what little money there is to where it needs to go. So then, I look up and there is the first MIKI of 2021 the only one that I've seen anywhere.
