Full Snapping Turtle Moon

Full ST Moon rises tonight, Wednesday, May 27, one half hour past sunset. Should be so fine y'all. 4-28-21 after seeing a MIKI over the Berry on Earth Day, today I spotted number 2 over campus in Lafey today. Daughter Amy called from Dutchtown to tell me that they are back there too. 5-17-21 Snapping Turtle at end of drive after 7" last week. Spoke to Prairie Dog in Grand Junction where that is the average rainfall for the year. 2" short of that last year. I cannot immagine it being that dry. Same Daughter Amy had backwater swamp water rise up and out of the swamp to enter her clean pool, Shoots! 5-18-21 4.5" more today, whew! 5-19-21 2" more today. 5-20-21 Red Eared Slider Turtle walking around Burke Hall on campus. Duckweed still stuck to her back. Mya, one of my prized granddaughters, told me that today it the 21st day, of the 21st week, of the 21st year, of the 21st century. How'd she know that y'all? She just smart that way, like her Mimi. What w...

Full MIKIs Returning Moon

The Full MIKIs Returning Moon rises Monday about 730, just before sunset, clear sky on Gulf Rim, Yay! Hey y'all! Happy Earth Day! I have an extra reasons to celebrate on April 22; Earth Day, son Jake's birthday (49) and the historic arrival date of MIKIs returning to Iberia Parish (MIKI=Mississippe Kite) 4-22-21 I step out of the Iberia Parish Courthouse where we have just filed Ol Ollie's (Father-in-Law) succession with the Clerk of Court, it has been a long time coming y'all, now to do battle with the financials to move what little money there is to where it needs to go. So then, I look up and there is the first MIKI of 2021 the only one that I've seen anywhere. Usually they show up in Lafayette and St Martin Parish before Iberia, even St Mary and Vermilion before Iberia. Yay! Anyway this is my first y'all. Summer is here! Did I say summer is here? We have them around all summer and one day you listen and no MIKI calling, no distinct shadowy ballet of silhouet...

Full AT Moon

Full Moon happens Sunday March 28. Sun sets around 730 as the Full AT Moon rises. Oh my! Don't miss this event.   On a clear night you can see all the way to the moon, God's streetlight. Margaret Simon, draft My COVID Ditty: My car is waxed I have been vaxed So I am ready to go Jack Let you know when I am back 3-1-21 March 1!!!   This day awakens a grand memory in me because I began a great adventure on this date. Let me tell you about it.    Jake was a senior at the Naval Academy, so this would have been 1997, March 1 , early spring. The Navy gave the cadets spring break one month before the rest of the universities to "keep them out of trouble", I guess. I also remember that for spring ’95 spring break, sophomore Jake and several roommates drove home to spend time with us, sleeping in our beds and eating out of our refrigerator and maybe go to NO too? I really don’t remember but I figger that was a part of it since I think they picked up matching tattoos ...

Full Birth Moon

The Full Birth Moon rises around sunset Saturday February 27. The day after Mimi's birth day, ha! We are not talking age here, just a time to celebrate! A short while after our last FMA, the Full Black Drink Moon, I received a note from my buddy David Lee, as I often do, with this attached. The attachment gave me hope, David seemed to be coming out of the sump he had sunk quietly into. His note said that this piece was unpublished and for his friends eyes only. I really like it and asked if I could use it as a lead-in piece for this FMA. David said he thought that would be OK. Enjoy! from not buttermilk but scalded milk sky       a splendid sun       spangles the cobwebs                                                 sharpens       maple leaves to shards       of fragmented light       th...

Full Black Drink Moon

Full moon rises grandly yesterday, today and friday, with thursday, today, being the coolest as the moon rises as the sun sets. So don't try to figure it out just enjoy the phenomenon triplet and be sure you have enough tart red on hand to make it through all three days. YeeeeeHawwwww! I really cannot speak for David Lee but I suspect he is as excited as I am that the wicked witch is gone. About damned time! Yes I mean our esteemed former President. Maybe David will begin writing poetry again in earnest. Margaret, though, has been working y'all: We've learned that quiet isn't always peace   And the norms and notions   of what just is   Isn't always just-ice   Amanda Gorman,  The Hill We Climb  Inaugural Poem   These words from Amanda Gorman hit a nerve. As a white woman raised in the south in the 60’s and 70’s,  Just Is  was a part of the thread that wove the fabric of racism in our time. Echoes of that’s just the way it is rang through the school hallways...

Full I Can See Clearly Now Moon

Full I Can See Clearly Now Moon rises,Tuesday, December 29 at 5pm  about 15 minutes before the sun sets. should be a grand affair unless the clouds move in. Hey, this is Louisisana y'all...P and I will raise a glass of tart red to you our friends and the awe inspiring natural world that supports us. I'm Here The city doesn't require me to have a purpose. It says I never need to think about what I'm offering the world. The essence is money. The rest can be a blur of hiding from the sun in air-conditioned rooms. No need for any of it ot be holy. Throw cups away, ten a day. A cool night wind blows my windows open. I disagree with the mantras of this place. I can't forget that I'm standing on a planet that is floating in space. I can't ignore my constant awe or the words that arrive  while I'm sleeping. Each verse written in the dark is a reason,  a reminder that I'm here and I know why.           Jacqueline Suskin 12-1-20 Full moon tonight, Woo...
