Full Moon Alert

That Full Monarch Birthing Moon is sneaking up on Ol Possum quickly. We will have quite a show on Halloween night and Sunday as well. With Zeta streaking through being whipped by a cold front we should have the finest moon gazing of the year. I don't know about your acreage on this big warm wet marble but Monarchs are scarce on my rectangle. Kristie, a Colleague on campus, and on third floor in Hamilton Hall, is a Geology instructor and a fine photographer. This week she shared photos and video of the Monarch birthing process. Kristie gardens at home for Monarchs with milkweed plantings. Two weeks ago she shared a video of a caterpillar morphing into a chrysalis, it was a different individual than that one she shared yesterday but what a fine reminder of how amazing our habitat is.  The Full Okra rises just as the sun sets Wednesday evening and again on October 1. Get ready, I am, I love my tart red slightly chilled so I'll take care of that. I know it is a school night but what the hay, this is important stuff y'all. The air is now clear and cool after the passage of a "cold" front Monday. I call this one the Full Okra because that is what is happening in my garden these days. I planted late and we are in full harvest mode now. It is a mall patch so I pick every other day and we get just enough for P and I. I've been dreaming of Shrimp and Okra and Smoked Sausage Gumbo, perhaps soon! The boiled Okra Salad is a frequent dish at out table in between gumbos. Boiled whole tender pods seasoned to taste and dressed lightly with vinegar and olive oil. I think of the tender okra seeds as vegetable caviar.  Laura has left friends and neighbors to the west in quite a mess P and I had minimal damage. My bud Gary a geophysicist of similar age to ol possum saved this cartoon for me during lockdown and brought it to me today. It is from Mother Goose and Grimm, not a 'toon' that I follow. The two stars Pogo and the yellow dog with the big nose are looking out of the window. The exchange goes something like this, yellow dog says "I don't get this Pogo. The virus has forced us cartoon characters to stay inside for five weeks. Now, there is no pollution, no green-house effects and our rivers and lakes are clean and clear..." Pogo responds "Yeah...we have met the enemy and he is us ." Then Gary looked me in the eye saying he believes agriculture is a big player in our present condition. Amen brother.
